Glory for NiF (again!)

Larger ImageAt 1800 GMT today, the outlook was bleak for NiF’s high command. Butchered and then beaten back, NiF had lost swathes of territory and thousands of troops. Their main rival, SF, had bolstered their forces by 11,000,000 plinks, bring SF’s total spend to a ludicrous 23,000,000 plinks. The extra 11,000,000 plinks put another 18,824 troops on the battlefield. These measures were simply not enough to stop the blitzkrieg NiF unleashed upon Russia, and by half time, SF were on their knees with only a handful of territories left. Crucially, many of the smaller clans choice to stand by while the two titans traded blows, afraid of getting caught in the crossfire; despite SF’s valiant and commendable stance, they were ultimately defeated and crushed amongst the dying embers of their former Empire. SF were simply out-maneuvered, NiF had 3 times the commanders online to manage their troops while SF had Rave and Olly to manage their vast empire. I sincerely hope SF can bring their significant political and financial clout to the next battle to seek retribution. Congratulations NiF, you have now won as many (official) battles as everyone else put together!
SF were not the only ones to be rudely shoved out of the top 10- the most painful fall from grace was JFK’s. They do say you reap what you sow and JFK’s aggressive expansion last Sunday is no different. JFK are to FBG politics what a cast iron sledgehammer is to poetry. Not keen on using the diplomatic channels available to them, they made LW, SAS and iK suffer last week as they took what pleased them; and this week, those 3 clans sought back what was theirs and at a hefty price. LW did the most damage, striking deep into JFK’s stronghold in Turkey. This risky tactic could have been born out of revenge, but this savvy reporter believes it was born out of necessity- SAS came out of nowhere to take (and hold) Italy for the majority of the battle. This comeback pushed SAS back into the top 10; in seventh place. Let me say there is not much love lost between SAS and JFK:

LW however came in 5th place having spent
less than 400,000 plinks! Not far behind SAS iK were howling for LW’s blood. Not daunted by the prospect of having to go through SAS (as opposed to going around them), iK made it to Northern Italy before the end of the Battle. iK’s reign over Portugal, Spain, France and associated isles was quite peaceful this battle, with few if any contenders emerging to claim their territories. It came as no small surprise to see iK dig in and focus on old feuds as opposed to going for gold. It all paid off in the end, with iK taking home the silver trophy.
Up north, WoC continued to hold VIA off while their grip over Wales, Scotland and Northern England tightened. With FBG veteran Clairvoyant (formerly of RUSH) in charge, it was a surprise to see what would have been considered a “slow advance” out of Ireland as opposed to some of RUSH’s faster tactics. Having spent an incredibly small amount of plinks (half a million) nad finishing in 3rd place, WoC have some serious potential if they can increase their financial backing.
Larger ImageI hear you ask, what of VIA? What happened to the clan whose insidious and pervasive grip
dominated every single beta game? Was their success purely down to the political clout being the “biggest fish” granted them? Unquestionably one of the clans with the best tactician, both diplomatically and strategically, VIA’s Kaiser had the misfortune of being at a LAN last Sunday, thus his forces were irrecoverably whittled down in England. Consolidating his forces into one territory (2,200), VIA survived till the very end Further south, TAR seem to have buried the hatchet with VIA, choosing to launch 16,000 troops into mainland Europe from England, eliminating FRAG in the process. Good game guys, hope to see FRAG back again with a bit more experience under their belt. TAR finished just outside of the top 3, in 4th position.
In Germany, /I\ sat tight, with their borders manned and guarded while combat raged all around them, /I\ were happy with 6th place and chose not to try their luck pushing for more.
And so Battle 9 is over, during the break today, some of you may have noticed that no troop bonus was given to any of the clans; this bug shall (hopefully!) be fixed for the next battle.
**EDIT: After getting a chance to speak to some of the guys in FBG, I found out that while NiF was the public face of SF's demise, ELY was seriously hampering SF's efforts to flee in Russia and Finland. Finally in a position to strike back, ELY fanatically hunted every last SF troop they could find- not to mention being the source of much of JFK's grief down south too. Good job guys!
